For all those screen reader people out there, how do you do combat missions--or, indeed, combat in general--on Miriani? I've tried and tried with the sim at High Guard Command (not wanting to risk a starship) and cannot get it to work for me. I can only type and read so fast, and the combat drones score hits and move before I can read the starmap and get a lock on them. At this point, the best I've done are partial hits, and I can't figure out what to do.
I wouldn't even bother, except you need combat points to buy certain ships, and I've got my eye on one that requires combat points.
Any tips/suggestions?
Thanks,
Alison
You did enable the sight command right? That should make it tons easier for you. Also, combat takes practice. Enable sight if you haven't already, and just practice at it. Combat at miriani was what got me to speed up my jaws speech so I could keep up with it.
you'll get there eventually. start with just 1 ship and practice locking and firing on it, then move higher and higher. i'm not the best gunner either, but i do think the simulator has really helped me
Yeah, I have enabled the sight command.
Okay, so faster Jaws and lots of practice. At least I know it's not impossible. :)
Thanks much,
Alison
and you are scanning, not using the starmap right? also, try typing aim instead of lock.
yes, the simulator can be programmed to simulate diffrent things. what i did, is start off with a ship which i had to destroy with out moving, then used flying and 1 ship, 1 drone, 2 drones, so on
I'll be gone for the next two weeks, but if you haven't gotten help then, I can show it to you. I think I'm making a habit of teaching people now, haha. When I get back from the beach, lookup Calandria.
Well, what I've been doing is focusing on one ship with the focus command, because I can't read the starmap fast enough to get a lock.
I'll use aim instead of lock, though. I didn't even think of that--have just been typing aim all the time.
Thanks again.
Alison
Heres what I do on missions.
scan
Grab a number.
AIM coordinates
fire
fire
fire
until that ship has moved out of range, then I go gets its number again. Unless its moved out of range, in which case the whole process repeats itself.
Alison:
my personal oppinion on combat missions and combat in general is learning how to do things one at a time, otherwise it can get kind of jumbled.
Obviously you know how to engineer so I will skip that step, that's a pretty easy task.
As far as gunning there are really two ways most people go about doing it, either they use the focus command and focus on a ship then type either lock x y z or aim x y z. so for instance, you type focus, it gives you the list of ships, you press a numbers, you get it's coordinates lock and fire till it either dies or moves.
another way to do it, which is personally my way is to use the scan command, mind you if you don't have stuff gagged in the scan command that might get kind of ugly, but in theory it goes something like, sc enter corresponding ship number, grab coordinates, type aim x y z
so for instance it looks something like this
sc
1
aim 4 4 3
can
Flying is a bit harder and that definitely takes alot of practice, if you need any help, hit up Casandra, I'll be glad to help you.
yeah, I think for scanning, most clients have the addspeech interrupt thing so it jumps right to the coords. It'll start to read, then kind of stop and just read you the coords of your target, which you can then aim at. Your jaws needs to be around 60 or there abouts, it can't really be dragging along or else your gunning will be slower.
You can't always use sc though, it depends on if that is in as an alias for the pack. That's y I always use scan.
Yeah, I've been using scan lately, in combo with the faster jaws and "aim" rather than "lock."
(I'd love to try out the cannon, actually--I've been confined to lasers--but I can't use it with the starship sim at HGC. Incidentally, does anyone know why that is? Do you have to bring your own bardinium or something?)
Flying is another thing I'm not insanely good at, but that's partly because my relativity drive sucks royally and I haven't been able to get upgrades yet. I suppose I fly all right, though I don't really know what the standards are.
:) Alison
Depends on what ship you select as your ship in the sim. If you want to try out cannons, try the flitter.
Yeah, I've been using the flitter for combat sims because it's the only combat-worthy ship I've got (I can't solo fight in a roid hauler). But I still can't use the canons because there's no bardenium. I can't figure out why they let you have sim-canons and no sim-bardenium to go with.
Alison
then try a fighter, only lasers in that one.
The problem isn't that I have no weapons in the flitter, it's just that I can't test out the cannons. I've been using lasers, but I wanted to compare lasers vs cannons, just to see how each one worked.
Alison
alison, have you tried reloading when you're in the sim flitter?
private message me here on the zone or find me on miriani, I'll also take you on a vanguard mission and I'll see what I can do about getting you better with gunning, :p.
Jess
Haha ... Yeah, I was *trying* to reload. I wasn't doing it very well though, because I was typing 'rel' instead of reload.
I didn't figure it out till I went on a mission with a friend and finally remembered reading in the help files that "reload" has no alias.
Sorry about the stupid newbieness. LOL.
Alison
Hmmm, I guess everyone does things differently. The ways people have said so far for gunning on miriani certainly do work even if it is not the way I gun. I tend to scan to find a ship in range and after I do that I focus what ever the ship I've chosen is. Once I've got my target focused I aim at the coordinates I wish to fire at and hit either las or can depending on the weapon I'm using. After each las or can I press focus again to make sure my target hasn't moved which allows me to aim and fire a bit quicker than most people since I've already got coordinates aimed if it has moved. I will definitely say that faster jaws helps a tun though I keep mine at 95 percent during missions or pvp. Well, I'm Alexander on there if you ever need help. LOL, although most people try to avoid me. I promise I won't bite and I'd be glad to help you if you still need help.
Ghost, that's pretty much what I've found works best for me, too, though I can forego the scanning if I'm on a mission with other people and someone is calling out ship names over the PA.
Thanks.
Alison
I've never done that, I've always called coords, makes it so the other person doesn't have to scan and get the cords. For instance, I'll hear this.
pa "number 1".
I have to do
scan
1
aim x y z
can/las
I have always done it this way.
scan
get coords
pa "x y z"
aim
can/las.
Just always seems easier on the other people doing the mission if I do it that way.
yeah agree. works best for me too. :)
i love using the focus command, it's awsome
I hate it when people call corrds so I always disable coords. Half the time the person calling coords calls coords after I've already shot that ship once or twice so I just find it to be spam and no help at all.
I hate focus forever, Lol I dunno I just am not a big fan of it I'd much rather scan and yeah I never pay attention to people calling coords.
It depends on how hard the mission is. If it's crazy, like a diff for example, I pay attention to coord announcements unless I've found something to fire at. With easy missions, I don't even bother, because listening to coord announcements on easy missions is way pointless when you can just focus and hit them and not have to wait.
Alison
what i do is scan the item in particular and then get its coords, aim, and fire. all in one motion, for instance
scan
3 4 3
aim
lock onto the coords
and fire
the ship I use in a sim is rather a nasty one but its the battle cruiser for lrl.
however this tactic will not help you aim and fire with coordinance if you use lrl most of the time in a sim and never figure out the one unit rule
for flying I do this in a mission
4 6 4 6 4 6
I use the pattern 4 4 4
its somehow easier than 3 3 3
first go to marlyn, in 15, and look at the zebra corpse in the petting zoo. then go and look at the stone on the umber landing pad in 13, then look at the
boot on the landing pad on hostius in 20, then look at the stone on the landing pad on the barren, in sector 11. each will have a number written in roman
numerals. and remember, the keypad at dannee will tell you which number to use first.
I hate 6464. I've found that you do get hit more than if you use patterns. I fly in triangles, 2 6 7, 1 8 6, that kind of thing. You just have to picture where you're going and keep scanning the target ship. Now that I've flown a diff, piloting rocks.
Missions anyone? lol.
hmm,
sweet man, has that ever worked for you?. i mean, i always get sent through the trap door when i enter the numbers.. always get the wrong order!. what happens if you actually get through, what's in there. actually, i bet it's a trick... enter the right numbers and it still won't work... probably just a way to excite people!
will remember lrl. thanks
I always fly either 2 4 6 8 or 2 6 7. I wanna try a diff, but I don't think I'd make it through. You guys wanna be the crew?
if you get the code right, there's hatch crackers, fridges, air fresheners and stun batons in there.
you know when it says first is first on the keypad?
15 13 20 11
when it says first is first, it means 15 is first. when it says third is first, the number for 20 goes first. And you enter them in with no spaces.
I don't know how they determine what's first though. it's weird.
but yay, I flew diffs and passed my bc test yesterday. I just have to get the cash for it. I was so happy about it lol. If you keep your head in the game, flying diffs isn't hard at all.
Alison, who are you on Miriani?
god damn it. I can't get the app to be allowed through. You gotta take me on some diffs with ya cala.
well keep in mind, I think I read somewhere, that the ap process is automatic, but doesn't someone look at the people applying? And if they don't think you're ready they deny you. Correct me if I'm wrong here.
i guess the hosts look at it, or at least that would be my first thought.
I'm just glad I was able to get into an event yesterday. Man, that was awesome.
